International Women’s Day is observed on March 8 of every year, Women in different parts of the world use this day to come together to celebrate one another and rally for equal treatment and representation emphasizing the struggles of women around the world.

It is also a day dedicated to celebrating the social, political and economic achievements of women.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is: “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”

The #BreakTheBias hashtag represents this year’s campaign, which encourages individuals to work for a world that is equitable, inclusive, and free of bias and discrimination to level the playing field for women in the future.

“We have the potential now to put women and girls at the centre of our planning and activity, as well as to integrate gender perspectives into global and national laws and policies,” says Sima Bahous, executive director of UN Women.
